Carol Kvinge Condray was born in Watertown, South Dakota, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1942. The encouragement of Pastor James and Mary Rhoads influenced her decision to attend Southwestern Junior College the following fall. After graduating from Union College in 1947, Carol began her teaching career in Texas at Jefferson and Valley Grande Adventist Academies. A move to Tennessee enabled her to earn a master's degree at the University of Tennessee in 1962. The following fall, she taught English at Spencerville Adventist Academy in Maryland. The following year Columbia Union College hired Carol as an English instructor, a position she held from 1963-1967.

In the fall of 1967, Carol returned to Southwestern Union College as English Department Chair. The following year, she began graduate work at Texas Christian University, earning her Ph.D. in 1975. The year of her retirement, in 1990, the students dedicated the 1989-1990 MIZPAH to her. The last paragraph of the dedication reads, "Most of all, we will remember how your love of Christ and your desire to share that love shines through everything you do. You are the picture that comes to mind when Chaucer describes a person who 'gladly would he learn, and gladly teach.' We thank you for sharing your joy of living, learning, and teaching with us, Dr. Carol Sample."

In 1992, the Southwestern Adventist College Board voted her professor emeritus, and in 1993, she was one of four alumni chosen for the Hall of Fame. Her name also appears in the eleventh edition of Who's Who of American Women.

Ben Rogers Condray retired from East Texas Baptist University in 1987. He spent his entire 37-year teaching career as a chemistry professor in that institution, where he was chairman of the department for 25 years. Ben received his master's degree from Purdue University in 1950 and his doctorate from Baylor University in 1963. In addition to his academic career, Ben has been active in church activities and served his country in World War II in the European theater in the 101st Regiment of the Yankee Division. On April 29, 2012, he married Carol Sample, and the two of them embarked on an entirely new and rewarding adventure.
