Cecil E. Lambeth was born in Northeast Texas in 1912. At the age of 16, he left his parents' farm to attend Southwestern Junior College. He graduated in 1934 with a degree in theology. Following graduation, he began working for the Arkansas-Louisiana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

In 1938, he decided to serve as a missionary in Brazil. His mission activities included many endeavors within the departments and administration of the Church, but his greatest satisfaction came from building schools and hospitals, including Silvestre Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. It was in Brazil that he met his wife, Maria Aurora Pinheiro. He and his family dedicated themselves to education and evangelism both in Brazil and in Texas.

Even though Cecil's work took him several places, his heart was always at Southwestern. He encouraged many students to attend the school he loved. The large population of Brazilian students on the campus today is a result of his recruitment efforts that began many years ago.

The Cecil E. Lambeth scholarship is awarded each year to a student from Brazil or South America and is based on financial need.
