Jason was born in May of 1975. For the first six months of his life, he seemed to have a lot of colds. His parents took him to many hospitals and doctors, but he only grew worse. Then his grandfather, Dr. Sorensen, discovered he had cystic fibrosis, and that he didn't have long to live. At this time Jason's parents, Dave and Penny Mickley, were both students at Southwestern. On February 17, 1978, Jason's condition suddenly worsened, and he died at home the next day. His aunt remembers him as a cheerful child who courageously tried to live a normal life in spite of his health problems.
Scholarship award requirements
