The Wisdom Nursing Scholarship was established in 1983 by Virgil and Charity Stone. Charity is one of Charles and Margaret Wisdom’s four daughters who attended Southwestern Junior College and chose careers in nursing. Charity received her R.N. from Wichita Falls General Hospital of Nursing. Each of the Wisdom sisters enjoyed a long career in nursing and felt it was a rewarding and challenging career as they witnessed many incredible changes over the decades. Charity stated, “Nursing is a profession where you work hand-in-hand with God as you serve others.”
Charity and Virgil Stone’s two daughters also attended Southwestern Union College in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Jeanene went on to work for the California Conference at Paradise Valley and La Sierra University. Debbie finished her Bachelor of Science in nursing at Union College on the Denver campus.
The Wisdom Nursing Scholarship is awarded by the recommendation of the Department of Nursing and is financed in the part by matching funds from the Exxon Mobile Foundation from which Charity’s husband retired with more than 42 years of service. This Scholarship is dedicated to the Wisdom sisters who were privileged to attend this University.
