Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) hosted more than 150 high school seniors and sponsors on campus at this year’s University Days, a weekend event for prospective students. Twelve schools across the Southwestern Union sent their students from all over Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico to inspire them that SWAU is the next best place to grow their knowledge, to build their faith, and to prepare them for a life of service.
During the weekend, seniors got to meet professors and have fun engaging in each department’s activity for them, from playing a hole of miniature golf to dressing up as Knights, even winning scholarships at Academic Showcase. Department of Music students wowed the senior crowd during SWAU’s Music Showcase, a lively talent show featuring vocal, choral, piano, and string performances.
Seniors toured the University, attended a class in the department of their interest, and got their questions answered by a panel of SWAU students about the real SWAU experience. Some students opted to practice and perform with SWAU’s orchestra, brass ensemble, University Singers, and SWAT gymnastics team. The Spiritual Life and Development team gave seniors a special SWAU worship experience at Friday night worship, Sabbath morning’s Elevate service, and Sabbath evening vespers.
Between events, seniors found time to squeeze in playing some basketball and volleyball, enjoying popsicles and games sponsored by the Student Association, a Saturday-night trip to nearby Alley Cats Entertainment Center, eating SWAU’s delicious cafeteria food, and getting some sleep in SWAU’s comfortable dorm beds.
Thanks for coming, seniors! We hope to welcome all of you back next fall as SWAU’s new freshmen class!
