The Thomsen Observatory Prepares for Spectacular Total Solar Eclipse

Johnson County, Texas - On April 8, 2024, a celestial phenomenon is set to grace the skies as a total solar eclipse occurs, and Southwestern Adventist University's Thomsen Observatory is gearing up to host a remarkable viewing experience. Positioned in the path of totality, SWAU anticipates a surge in visitors eager to witness this rare event.
Despite the potential for overcast skies, preparations are underway at the Thomsen Observatory to ensure an unforgettable eclipse-watching experience. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on April 8, the observatory will welcome guests to observe the solar spectacle. Complimentary solar glasses will be available while supplies last, allowing attendees to view the eclipse safely. Additionally, food and other vendors will be on-site, providing refreshments and amenities for those in attendance.
Jerry Becker, the manager of the Thomsen Observatory, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, "We are expecting a lot of people! We are excited about this event and are praying the skies stay clear so we all have a good view."
