On August 2, 2023, SWAU hosted Title IX Solutions to conduct Title IX training for the SWAU Title IX team. We were proud to have participants from other schools, including East Central College in Ada, OK, Hill College, Collin College, Murray State College in OK, and Odessa College. During the first part of the morning, during the general overview, all SWAU faculty and staff were invited to attend to complete their yearly training requirements. Title IX teams must complete training yearly to prepare for their role on the team. Faculty, staff, and students also have required training every year.
The Title IX Solutions Trainers were engaging, passionate about this difficult topic, and came with a wealth of knowledge. They will return to conduct training for the Decision Maker role this November.
This training is essential for the Title IX team to prepare for their role when a Title IX complaint against a faculty member, staff, or another student is filed. SWAU wants to ensure that the process is conducted fairly for each party but also considers the safety of all students.
This training was specifically for Title IX Investigators, who have an essential role in investigating when there is an allegation of sexual harassment, stalking, relationship violence, sexual assault, and rape. The investigators already have other roles and busy jobs at the University but have willingly added this to their duties when needed. The Investigator must interview and be able to discuss delicate situations and ask difficult questions. The information they collect assists with the process of determining what, if any, action may need to be taken.
Title IX aims to provide an education environment free of sexual harassment, stalking, relationship violence, and sexual assault and to ensure that any student can participate in a learning environment and in all school activities on campus.
