Southwestern Adventist University welcomed Dr. Tim Bainum, on behalf of the Irvin and Evea Bainum Foundation, to campus to officially open the new concession and restroom facilities at the Bainum Field. University students, faculty, and Board of Trustee members were on hand to celebrate the completion of the project.

The Foundation has gifted more than $200,000 to the project so far. The gift has been used to build a field house on the ball field, next to the Duck Pond, with restrooms, a concession stand, and equipment storage. New signage and score boards have also been added to the ball fields.

Evea Bainum, Class of 1941, previously served on the University’s Board of Trustees. She loved her alma mater and gave generously over the years. After she and her husband gave to the building fund for the Chan Shun Centennial Library and the building was finished, Mrs. Bainum looked to her son for help in coming up with a new project. They decided to invest in the University’s ball field in 1992 and it was subsequently named Bainum Field.

“My father was a plumber by trade so when I recently walked around the ball field the first thing I noticed was that the field house was missing some necessary plumbing,” Bainum explained. “I don’t want the students walking back across the street to campus for restrooms and concession facilities. I’m just thrilled we can make this available to our students.”

“We are excited and very thankful for Dr. Bainum and his family’s’ commitment to our students through their gift of an athletic fieldhouse,” says Vice President for Advancement Tami Condon. “This facility provides restrooms and showers, plus a concession area which will allow student clubs and organizations to raise money for future projects.”
