Southwestern Adventist University celebrated its 125th birthday on January 10, 2019 with hundreds of students, employees, and friends of the University. While Congressman Roger Williams of the 25th District of Texas is currently in the nation’s capital representing his citizens, he has extended his well wishes to the University through his Field Representative, Don Nicholas.

During a meeting with Southwestern Adventist University’s President, Dr. Ken Shaw, Mr. Nicholas presented Dr. Shaw with a commemorative American flag on behalf of Congressman Roger Williams. Congressional representatives gift a flag to individuals and organizations not only during times of mourning but also during times of celebration. Nicholas noted that the Congressman wished he could have delivered the flag in person and celebrated with the campus community on this special day.

During his address at the Founder’s Day Assembly on January 10, Dr. Shaw talked about his time with Mr. Nicholas and how much he appreciated the Congressman and the men and women who serve in our nation’s legislature.  Having a copy of the certificate on the large screens and the flag in hand, the president shared with the hundreds who were attending the special assembly, “Don Nicholas provided this certificate and this special flag from our Congressman, Roger Williams, to help us celebrate Founder’s Day and our 125th anniversary.  Congressman Williams wants to make sure that we feel celebrated on our Founder’s Day.”

Southwestern Adventist University is pleased to have reached this 125 years milestone and is looking forward to continuing the tradition of providing quality Christian education.
