Joyce Melius is the oldest of four siblings: one sister and two brothers. Melius married in 1980, and she graduated from Southwestern Adventist University (then college) in 1981 with an associate degree in nursing. Ever since, she has lived and worked in the area. Melius’ first worked at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, as a nurse's aide then as an RN. In 1982, she began work full-time at Huguley Hospital and continued to work there until 2020. Her favorite area in nursing is critical care. Melius’ outside activities include ice skating, electronics, sewing, gardening, stamp collecting and scrapbooking.
