Last week, Southwestern Adventist University’s contemporary Christian radio station, 88.3 The Journey FM, raised over $130,000 during its Fall Sharathon, a bi-annual event when listeners come together to support the station’s mission of being radio for the walk of life.

Sharathon raises operational funds needed to bring inspirational music to over 40,000 listeners across the southwest corner of the DFW Metroplex. This fall’s fundraising goal was $118,485 and was surpassed by over $12,000 thanks to hundreds of listeners and a number of generous donor matches.

“What an amazing outpouring of support for our radio ministry,” said the Journey’s General Manager Michael Agee. “Given the pandemic’s impact on our communities and the economy, reaching our goal was not certain. We are very thankful for our listeners and their support of the Journey.”

Usually, Sharathon provides an opportunity for listeners to visit the station, meet other listeners and volunteer to field donation calls through the busy week. While COVID 19 restrictions required a reduction in volunteers, SWAU faculty and staff came together to support the station and helped raise important funds.

“The flurry of calls and responses over the past week have been exciting,” shared Dr. Ken Shaw, University President. “88.3 The Journey is a ministry that touches many lives and I am proud of the team and for all they do to share God’s love in our community.”
