Southwestern Adventist University’s (SWAU) 29th annual A Night at the Meyerson concert will be hosted on February 27, 2022 at 6 p.m., at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in downtown Dallas, Texas. The concert is the finale of Southwestern Adventist University’s Music Festival which brings talented student musicians from across the United States together each spring for vigorous music education and performance. The music festival features a mass choir, symphony orchestra, and guest artists.

“The annual music festival at SWAU is an unparalleled experience for high school student musicians to participate in elite music making in an inspiring environment,” shares Dr. Devon Howard, chair of the Department of Music.

During the festival, the students learn a variety filled repertoire featuring musical masterworks in addition to new compositions. This marks the fifth year that the festival has partnered with a composer to write a commissioned piece to be premiered during the concert at the Meyerson. Following Ēriks Ešenvalds, Kim André Arnesen, Craig Courtney, and Dr. Brandon A. Boyd, this year’s festival will feature British composer, Philip Stopford, world renowned for his beautiful choral music. Stopford has an impressive musical background and a reputation as a fun, engaging and meticulous choir trainer.

“The opportunity for our festival musicians to interact with the best composers in the world is certainly very special,” says Jonathan Wall, the Artistic Director of the Southwestern Music Festival. “Hearing the inspiration behind the composition and receiving to receive training from the composers themselves is such an honor and unique blessing. We are delighted this year to host Philip Stopford, and I feel the experience will be one that will last forever for all those that attend.”

The goal of this annual concert is to promote musical achievement among young musicians and provide scholarships that will enable students to thrive as they engage in music while pursuing their college degrees. This tradition continues thanks to our sponsors; we immensely appreciate their passion, vision, generosity, and love for transforming students’ lives!
