Southwestern Adventist University’s alumni and friends rallied together during the annual #GivingTuesday drive to provide a gift that lasts in support of Christian higher education. The campaign raised over $56,000 that will fund student centered initiatives and scholarships.

The 2020 #GivingTuesday campaign included gifts from the university’s website, peer to peer fundraising initiatives on social media, CyberMonday AmazonSmile funds and a week filled with incoming phone call pledges. Donations support The Southwestern Fund which according to Mira Lam, Development Officer, “creates a better today and tomorrow by providing critical funds to meet the most pressing needs of the University and our students.” The primary use for this fund, formerly known as the Annual Fund, is scholarships. With every student receiving financial assistance, these gifts are critical to ensuring that any funding gaps for essential student and campus needs are filled.

While 2020 has been a year like none other, generosity has remained strong. In appreciation for sustaining contributors who give at least $250 during a calendar year, the University has launched a multi-year Ornament Gift Series as a creative way to show gratitude for continued support. The inaugural ornament features the iconic Mizpah Gate, a Texas Historic Landmark. Next year, the University is excited to release an ornament that features Evans Hall. These ornaments, while greatly cherished and fun to collect, are not the main reason people continue to give. They give because of a commitment to inspire faith, knowledge, service and community through a gift that lasts.
