Southwestern Adventist University welcomed Ana Patterson as its 26th President in July 2021. “What a privilege to serve as a leader on a campus that values the mission of inspiring knowledge, faith, and service through Christ-centered education. Together with dedicated administrators, faculty, and staff, we strive to provide a distinct educational experience that prepares students to thrive wherever God leads them.”

Patterson graduated from Southwestern Adventist University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in long-term healthcare in 1999 and a Master of Business Administration in 2012. She is the university’s first female and first Hispanic president. Patterson most recently worked as the special assistant to the president for the university, has nearly a decade of teaching experience as a business professor at the university, served as chair of the university’s diversity and inclusion committee, and was named Educator of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year. She has been an active member of the community surrounding the university for the past two decades, serving in various roles on boards for several organizations. Patterson is married to her academy sweetheart, Greg, and they have three children. Together they enjoy gardening, traveling, and volunteering.

Enactus “an international organization that connects student, academic and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based projects that empower people to transform opportunities into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities.”

Projects executed as Faculty Advisor include:

Business in a Box: after school program for 6th-8th graders focusing on the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship.

Spoons for Change: women’s empowerment workshop series emphasizing job and life skills.

Thrive:  small business plan competition and workshop series providing resources for business owners and increased financial literacy and borrower education.

REZ REFUGE: solar passive greenhouse designed and built to serve as a springboard for a gardening program at a Navajo youth center.                 

BeeYond Design: one on one mentoring and consulting in the areas of production and marketing for an industry for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Mrs. Ana Patterson is a native of New York City who arrived in Texas to attend Southwestern Adventist University in 1995, where she received both her BBA and MBA in Management & Leadership.  She began teaching in the Department of Business Administration in 2012.  For 7 years she served as faculty advisor for Enactus, connecting students and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based service projects.  In July 2020, Mrs. Patterson was selected to serve as Special Assistant to the President, where she has been coordinating the campus response to COVID-19 and assisting with various marketing projects. Mrs. Patterson has served on several community boards including the Johnson County Children’s Advocacy Center, Keene Adventist Elementary School Board and the Johnson County Hunger Coalition.  She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have three children.  She enjoys traveling with her family and anything that takes her outdoors.  At home, you will find her in the kitchen cooking for her family and friends.
