Southwestern Adventist University’s Communication Department is proud to host the first University film festival featuring short films from the 2016 South by Southwestern 48-hour film challenge and the University Film Production courses.  Some of the films to be featured were produced by teams from local high schools such as Alvarado High School, Burton Adventist Academy of Arlington, and Chisholm Trail Academy of Keene.

Several of the films to be shown have won awards.  Alvarado High School took home the People’s Choice Award and Dallas Christian Academy won for Best Directing at the film challenge. Another film to be featured, entitled The Prepper, recently won Best Student Comedy Short at the Lionshead Film Festival in Dallas.  A second film produced by student Shane Miosi, 100% Match, was recently officially selected in to the Rockport Texas Film Festival in November.

The film festival will occur on October 18 starting at 6:30pm at the Wharton Auditorium in the Mabee Center, on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University. The event is free and open to the public but there is limited seating in the venue. Because of the limited seating, attendees are asked to register for the free event and use their email confirmation as a ticket. To register, visit swau.edu/event, click the Film Festival event, and click the link to register.
