Southwestern Adventist University Students Impact Lives On Mission Trips

Dozens of Southwestern Adventist University students spent their spring break vacation serving residents of Peru, the Dominican Republic, and the Navajo Nation in Arizona and New Mexico. 

More than twenty university faculty, staff, and students conducted medical clinics for the local residents of Sosua, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. “During each day of the trip, our students assisted licensed health-care professionals in triage, assessments, pharmacy work, and passing out toothbrushes to more than 130 local residents,” said Marcia Azevedo, trip coordinator and Nursing faculty member at Southwestern Adventist University. 

For Priscilla Rosendo, a senior Nursing student, this was her second mission trip and first medical mission trip. In addition to having the opportunity to practice her nursing skills in a hands-on environment, Rosendo felt blessed to be able to give back and to bring happiness to the less fortunate. “I wanted to be part of this trip because after all God has done to bring me to where I am now, I wanted to give back,” shared Rosendo. “The little that I am able to do to bring smiles to the faces of the Dominican children motivates and inspires me.”

This is the 21^styear that the University has led a trip to the Dominican Republic and as a result thousands of lives have been influenced by the evidence of God in the students.

In addition to the work done in the Dominican Republic during spring break, Southwestern Adventist University students also traveled to four locations among the Navajo Nation in Arizona and New Mexico, as well as the Universidad Peruana Unión in Ñaña, Lima, Peru.
