Southwestern Adventist University's English Department To Present Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors"
Southwestern Adventist University’s English Department will present William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. This year’s play exhibits the clever wit of Shakespeare and his usual propensity for mistaken identity. The play will be set in 1960 Miami, lending bright colors and a festive atmosphere to the 16th century play.
The story involves two sets of twins, separated as infants, who arrive in the same town on the same day more than twenty years later. This leads to multiple cases of confused identity, ensuring a “comedy of errors.” Dr. Kristin Denslow, play director and Assistant Professor of English, says, “The element of the two sets of twins is interesting and doubles the confusion on stage, but one of the main reasons I chose to do this particular play was because of the beautiful reconciliation and sense of hopefulness that happens at the end.”
The performances will feature Southwestern Adventist University students from various disciplines who can participate in the play as an extracurricular activity or take it for academic credit.
In years past, the English Department has presented plays by authors such as Oscar Wilde, Oliver Goldsmith, and Molière.
Performances will be at the Mabee Center in Wharton Auditorium on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m.; Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m.; and Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission is $5. For more information, contact Kristin Denslow at kdenslow@swau.edu or call 817-202-6306.
