First Year Success
At Pathways to Success, we strive to prepare young professionals for Personal, Academic, and Career Success.
At Southwestern, we are a family, which is why every incoming first-year student is given a CORE Coach and family group to support them through their first year at Southwestern. CORE Coaches are peers from the same major who are trained to provide emotional, academic, and spiritual support to incoming freshmen, so that they can thrive during their first year at Southwestern.
CORE Coaches
CORE Coaches are trained to address your specific needs based on your college, major and career goals. Make an appointment to meet with your CORE Coach to get the personal attention you need for success. To schedule an appointment via Handshake or email Pathways@swau.edu.

“When I started Southwestern, I was terrified of all the changes going on in my life. This was the first time I was going off on my own as an adult, but I wasn’t alone. My CORE Coach provided the emotional, academic, and spiritual support that I needed to succeed during my first year at SWAU.”
Diana Monterroza
"Getting help with my resume was essential, and I think it’s so important for all other students to not overlook this free service the school provides. This helps to get you ready for a real job and I feel much more prepared because of it.”
Andrew Guerrero
“I think CORE Coaches are truly helpful in opening students up and making them feel welcomed. With the aid of my coach I was able to make new friends through CORE week, and I genuinely feel like all freshmen will benefit spiritually and socially from their coaches.”
